OUR CURRICULUM

Molo Mhlaba offers a project-based Montessori curriculum that is infused with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and maths) for girls as young as 3 years. Our schools include pre-primary and primary school campuses.

Molo Mhlaba’s pedagogy is aligned with the Montessori pedagogy and tailored to the context of Khayelitsha where the girls and the school are located.

By offering a child-led learning environment, we infuse our celebration of Pan-Africanism into the curriculum in a myriad of ways. Our classroom practice is informed by the eight principles of Montessori Education.

EIGHT PRINCIPLES OF MONTESSORI EDUCATION

1.

Movement and cognition are closely linked and movement can enhance
thinking and learning;

    2.

    Learning and well-being are improved when learners have a sense of control over their activities, time, and space;

      3.

      Learning is improved when learners are interested in what they are learning;

        4.

        External rewards for an activity, such as grades and other recognition for achievement, negatively impact motivation to engage in that activity when the reward is withdrawn;

          5.

          Collaboration can be conducive to learning;

            6.

            Learning that is located in a meaningful context is deeper and richer compared to learning in abstract contexts;

              7.

              Particular forms of adult engagement are linked to more optimal child outcomes;

                8.

                And having an orderly environment is beneficial to learners.
